What is Coffee Phin?
Back in the day, when fresh milk is limited, the French and Vietnamese used Sweetened condensed milk with dark roasted coffee. This is how the Vietnamese coffee - cà phê sữa đá is created. Vietnamese coffee is made with a small metal Vietnamese drip filter. It is a mix between a pour-over and French press to produce a deep satisfying brew.
Once the hot water is poured into the phin, the coffee will start dripping down to a cup that consists of two tablespoons of condensed milk. It will take several minutes for the dripping to yield a full cup. Once it's done, stir it well and pour it over a cup of ice to enjoy.
The slow dripping experience of phin coffee offers a leisure moment, you get to sink in, and hang out. Slowing down the conversation and taking a moment for yourself.
